Cat Lipe of Grants Pass, Ore. fished with me today for 4 hours from Cole Rivers Hatchery to Rogue Elk Park and had great success. Her limit of 9 pound hatchery steelhead (shown below) confirms the rumor of this year being a "big fish year."
With the light rain we are seeing in the Rogue Valley for the next few days, a lot more fish are expected to flood upstream.
The steelhead will continue to pile up until the month of May, where our focus then turns to Spring Chinook Salmon. On any given day fishing for steelhead in the month of April we have a chance of catching the first "Springer" of the season.
